Aquactiva Solutions SL provides ecological disinfection solutions for the agri-food, livestock, and water treatment sectors. The company was founded by four professionals with complementary backgrounds in sustainable development. One of the co-founders and the current Technical Director, Grégoire Gaume, is an industrial engineer with a Master’s degree in sustainable water management. His journey in Spain began around 2017 with the concept of electrolyzed water. The venture gained momentum after being selected for the Climate-KIC accelerator, an EU initiative, where he met his partners, two from Valencia and two from France. The founding team also includes CEO Christophe Jous, Legal Director Josep Antoni Nebot, and Counselor José Castró León, who bring expertise in B2B administration, environmental law, and agronomy, respectively. The company later participated in the Lanzadera accelerator program. The core of Aquactiva’s B2B is a proprietary technology that generates a biocide on-site using only water, salt, and electricity through a process called electrochemical activation (ECA). This process creates electrolyzed water, or hypochlorous acid (HOCl), the same substance produced by mammalian white blood cells to fight pathogens. The company’s B2B model involves selling the generators that produce this disinfectant in-situ, as well as a line of pre-packaged, stabilized disinfectant products. Their target clients are primarily in the agri-food industry, livestock farming, and water treatment facilities, including municipal wastewater treatment plants. Revenue is generated through the sale of these systems and products, which offer a rapid return on investment, often within two to three years, due to significant cost savings for the clients. The primary product is a system that produces a disinfectant solution up to 100 times more effective than bleach, yet is completely harmless to humans and the environment, being 100% biodegradable. This solution effectively eliminates a wide range of pathogens, including viruses like SARS-CoV-2, bacteria such as Legionella, Salmonella, and Listeria, as well as fungi and biofilms. Key benefits for clients include extending the shelf life of fresh produce, reducing food waste, and significant savings in water and energy during cleaning processes, as the product does not require rinsing. For instance, in the agri-food sector, it helps reduce chlorates and trihalomethanes in vegetable washing. In water treatment, trials have shown it to be significantly more effective and economical than conventional biocides for eliminating bacteria like E. coli. The company also offers a range of packaged eco-disinfectants for surfaces, veterinary use, and water potabilization, all approved by Spanish health authorities.
