Future Voltaics

Información detallada

Future Voltaics S.L. is a solar energy company that emerged as a spin-off from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Founded in 2020 by Dr. José Ripalda, a Tenured Researcher at CSIC, the company is built upon his research into photovoltaic (PV) systems. The initial concept for the firm’s core technology was formulated in 2019, followed by the development and testing of prototypes at the IMN-CSIC experimental solar facility. The company’s main offering is VECTHOR®, a patented photovoltaic system designed to maximize energy production during periods of high demand, such as early morning, late afternoon, and during winter. Unlike conventional systems, VECTHOR® combines east-west oriented vertical bifacial solar panels with specially engineered, patented reflectors that direct sunlight onto the panels. This static, no-moving-parts design increases energy yield and aligns power generation with peak electricity prices, enhancing profitability. The system also promises lower maintenance, a longer service life, and a reduced carbon footprint. Future Voltaics provides a proprietary software, FVlib, to model PV production and optimize the reflector geometry for specific locations. The B2B model is centered on the sale of these pre-assembled VECTHOR® kits to commercial, industrial, agricultural, and institutional clients for large rooftop installations. By increasing energy output per installed kilowatt—up to 31% more energy and 48% more revenue compared to conventional bifacial systems—the technology offers a faster return on investment. The company holds the exclusive marketing license for the core patents, which are the property of CSIC. Future Voltaics has received public funding from European, Spanish, and regional bodies, including grants from the NEOTEC program and Madrid City Council. It has established key partnerships with industry players like Soltec for external validation and ACOM AgroComponentes to develop an agrivoltaic version of its system.
